About the Role

Harper Brothers Construction is seeking an experienced Senior Heavy Civil Underground Superintendent to lead field operations on large-scale heavy civil and underground utility projects, including a major wastewater treatment plant project in the Austin area. This position is responsible for overseeing multiple crews, foremen, subcontractors, and self-perform operations while ensuring projects are safely executed, delivered on schedule, and completed to the highest quality standards.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in deep underground utility construction, excavation and trench safety, shoring systems, earthwork operations, reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) installation, reinforced concrete structures, quantity tracking, and production management. This individual must be a strong field leader capable of balancing safety, quality, productivity, and team development in a fast-paced construction environment.

What You'll Do

• Lead and manage day-to-day field operations for heavy civil, underground utility, pipeline, treatment plant, and infrastructure construction projects.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and oversight to superintendents, foremen, operators, laborers, and subcontractors.
• Manage installation of reinforced concrete pipe (RCP), reinforced concrete box structures, storm drainage systems, sanitary sewer systems, waterline infrastructure, and related underground utilities.
• Oversee deep underground utility installations and excavations up to 20 feet deep, ensuring compliance with all safety requirements.
• Ensure proper implementation and utilization of trench protection and shoring systems.
• Coordinate earthwork operations, including aggregate placement, compaction requirements, and quality control testing.
• Monitor project production rates, quantities installed, manpower efficiency, and equipment utilization.
• Plan and coordinate equipment selection based on project requirements and site conditions.
• Review project plans, specifications, schedules, and construction documents to proactively identify and resolve issues.
• Conduct daily safety meetings and champion a culture with zero tolerance for safety shortcuts.
• Coordinate inspections, testing, utility conflicts, and project turnover activities.
• Maintain accurate daily reports, production tracking logs, manpower reports, and project documentation.
• Partner with Project Managers, Owners, Engineers, Inspectors, and internal stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, increase productivity, reduce rework, and enhance project performance.
• Drive accountability across field teams while fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of experience as a Superintendent on heavy civil, underground utility, municipal infrastructure, or water/wastewater projects.
• Proven experience managing large-scale underground utility and heavy civil construction operations.
• Ability to effectively lead multiple crews and foremen across active construction operations.
• Strong understanding of project scheduling, production planning, and field coordination.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
• Strong commitment to safety, accountability, and quality workmanship.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Proficiency in Bluebeam Revu
• Good communication and written skills
