Job summary

Kimmel & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Senior Superintendent to lead field operations for heavy civil construction projects in the Richmond, Virginia area.

You will oversee field managers, coordinate crews, equipment, and materials, and ensure safety, quality, and schedule adherence on multiple-site infrastructure projects. The ideal candidate has 6+ years in heavy civil construction, including 2+ years in a Superintendent role; a Civil Engineering or Construction Management background is

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED; equivalent work experience may be considered.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred.
• At least 6 years of heavy civil construction experience, including a minimum of 2 years in a Superintendent role.
• Technical experience in highways, bridges, excavation, underground utilities, paving, or related disciplines.
• Experience across multiple construction trades preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication, planning, scheduling, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage field personnel, coordinate equipment and labor, and monitor project costs.
• OSHA 30-hour certification required; must obtain or enroll if not currently possessed within six months.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily field operations and provide leadership to field managers and crews.
• Develop work plans, staffing strategies, and schedules to maximize productivity and meet milestones.
• Interpret plans, estimates, and budgets to guide field execution.
• Coordinate manpower, equipment, and material resources for efficient delivery.
• Monitor progress, productivity, quality, and safety; implement corrective actions.
• Review costs with project managers to maintain financial objectives and improve performance.
• Enforce safety standards through planning, PPE, incident reporting and investigations.
• Collaborate with project teams, owners, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure success.
• Inspect field operations and completed work for compliance with specs and quality.
