Job summary

A confidential, well-established self-perform heavy civil contractor in Virginia is seeking a Project Manager to lead roadway, highway, and bridge work. You will run projects from planning through closeout, collaborating with field leadership, owners, agencies, subcontractors, and vendors.

You’ll own schedule, budget, risk and safety culture, reporting to senior leadership with real project ownership. Competitive base + bonus; relocation considered for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• 5–10+ years managing heavy/highway civil construction projects.
• Track record running medium-to-large heavy civil projects as a PM.
• Strong DOT/VDOT, roadway, grading, drainage, or utility background.

Responsibilities

• Lead heavy highway, road, and bridge projects from plan through closeout.
• Own schedule, budget, cost control, forecasting, change orders, documentation, and closeout.
• Protect projected margins and submit accurate cost/income projections.
• Serve as main project contact for owners, agencies, subcontractors, and vendors.
• Lead field supervision and project engineering teams; define roles.
• Identify project risks early and drive solutions.
• Protect the company’s position on contract changes and claims.
• Own quality control by reviewing designs against standards and requirements.
• Maintain safety/quality/production culture across the project.
• Issue subcontracts and PO's; manage subcontractor performance.
• Run weekly project meetings and report performance to leadership.
• Submit payment requisitions and escalate when needed.
