Job summary

Shirley Contracting Company, LLC is seeking a heavy highway / civil construction estimator, based at our Lorton headquarters, to help grow our backlog of projects. This role covers civil, utility, bridge and structure work ranging from $1 million to over $500 million.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of relevant estimating experience, proficiency with Bluebeam, HeavyBid, AGTEK and AutoCAD, and a strong ability to read and interpret plans, specs and contracts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of relevant estimating experience.
• Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Bluebeam, and Google.
• Familiar with bid-build and design-build projects in heavy/highway transportation.
• Read plans, specs, and contract terms and conditions.
• Undergraduate degree preferred in engineering or construction management.
• Experience with SmartBid, HeavyBid, AGTEK, and AutoCAD preferred.

Responsibilities

• Analyze plans, specs, and contract terms to determine scope and risk.
• Define scopes of work, create bid packages, solicit bids.
• Visit sites to assess field conditions and access constraints.
• Enter bid quantities into HeavyBid and develop production rates.
• Prepare cost analyses from subcontractors and vendors.
• Participate in bid reviews and pre/post-construction meetings.
• Assist in design-build meetings and strategy development.
