Job summary

Humana Inc. is seeking a Senior Research Scientist to advance HOS outcomes through applied research and quantitative analysis. You will build evidence on drivers of HOS, identify leading indicators, and deliver rapid analyses for high-impact questions.

You will collaborate across HOS Operations and Stars Analytics, guiding intervention strategy and portfolio development while communicating findings to both technical and nontechnical audiences. Remote role with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative, behavioral science, social science, or related field and 5 years of relevant analytical or applied research experience; OR Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related field and 3 or more years of relevant experience.
• Experience with data manipulation, exploratory analysis, interpretation, and visualization.
• Proficiency with at least one analytical or statistical programming language, such as Python, R, SAS, or SQL.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including translating technical findings for nontechnical audiences.
• Passion for contributing to an organization focused on continuously improving consumer experiences.

Responsibilities

• Build an evidence base on the factors associated with HOS performance.
• Develop and maintain an inventory of potential HOS leading indicators.
• Monitor behavioral science, survey research, competitive intelligence, and healthcare research relevant to HOS improvement.
• Conduct rapid exploratory and ad hoc analyses using internal and external data.
• Translate ambiguous business questions into structured research plans and actionable recommendations.
• Inform HOS intervention strategy, prioritization, and portfolio development.
• Partner with HOS Operations to guide the appropriate use of predictive models for member targeting and outreach.
• Communicate findings, limitations, and recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Proactively identify emerging HOS risks, opportunities, and research questions.
• Facilitate cross-functional discussions about evidence, targeting, and intervention design.
