Job summary

Aptive is seeking a Senior Health Informatics Standards and Interoperability Consultant to advance enterprise health data standards across VHA centers. You will drive semantic infrastructure, ontology governance, and interoperability while liaising with standards bodies and guiding implementation of HL7 v2, C-CDA, FHIR, SNOMED, LOINC, and more.

The role requires a decade of health informatics experience, strong leadership in semantic data, and SAFe-enabled planning with Jira/Jira Align.

Qualifications

Master's degree in health or biomedical informatics, information or computer science, library and information science, a clinical discipline, or a related field.
10 years of analysis and/or management experience in one or more disciplines of health sciences.
Within that experience, a minimum of 5 years in ontology and semantic interoperability concepts related to clinical or medical data classification and standardization.
Demonstrated experience with standards bodies or standards such as SNOMED, CDISC, HL7, or ASCO.
Demonstrated experience developing semantic infrastructure (metadata, ontology standards, terminology tooling, knowledge management resources).
Expert-level command of healthcare integration standards and implementations (HL7 v2, C-CDA, FHIR).
Experience across data integration, data modeling, and data warehousing to provide oversight.
Experience serving as liaison between technical teams and health standards bodies such as HL7.
Leadership and training in health standards to technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience in SAFe environment with backlog management and Jira/Jira Align familiarity.

Responsibilities

Semantic Infrastructure Development for enterprise clinical data, including metadata, ontology standards, information models, and reference data.
Ontology Design and Governance, including conventions, hierarchies, and quality assessment.
Semantic Interoperability: design, test, and validate mappings across code systems.
Knowledge Management resources: wikis, data dictionaries, modeling guides, decision repositories.
Standards Oversight: determine applicable standards for exchange scenarios and guide engineering and analyses.
Data Integration: direct design and oversight of integration across clinical, administrative, and ancillary systems.
Systems Integration: oversee enterprise health system interfaces, messaging, and API strategy.
Data Modeling: lead logical and physical data modeling with lineage and keys.
Data Warehousing oversight: source-to-target mapping and historization.
High-Level Analysis: evaluate options and produce actionable recommendations.
Standards Body Liaison: represent program with HL7, SNOMED, CDISC, etc.
Expert Domain Guidance: translate technical constraints for leadership.
Leadership and Training in Health Standards: develop reference materials.
Feature Delivery: translate problem statements into epics, features, and acceptance criteria.
Agile Team Participation: participate in SAFe rituals and governance.
Documentation and Artifacts: produce models, interface specs, mappings, data dictionaries.
Risk, Quality, Stakeholder Engagement: manage risks and engage stakeholders across VA ecosystem.
