Job summary

NM Dept of Health, Health Promotion Program within the Northwest Region of the Public Health Division works with internal and external partners to improve and support population health outcomes.

Why does the job exist?

This position supports communities in improving health and addressing the root causes of health disparities. This position connects communities with public health resources, elevate local priorities, provide hands‑on support, and build partnerships that support well‑being across the NW region. Through this work, HP staff act as liaisons, building trust between the Department of Health and community through sustained connections and support. HP staff align their work with priority public health strategies and services occurring across the Northwest Region.

How does it get done?

Primary responsibilities of Health Promotion staff include applying the 10 Essential Public Services framework to support regional public health priorities and improve population health outcomes. Health promotion efforts frequently intersect across multiple areas of the framework through community engagement, partnership development, communication, and support of public health strategies and services.

• Facilitate, cultivate and foster implementation of policies, plans and laws
• Link people to needed personal health services and assure the provision of health care when otherwise unavailable.

Who are the customers?

Key internal partners include other state programs and bureaus with the region and key external partners include tribal and county health councils, as well as not-for‑profits, managed care organizations and local community groups that support the work of councils and communities.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Public Health or Education and one (1) year of experience in a health‑related field. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
• Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some travel may be required.
