Job summary

Instacart is seeking a Sr Hardware Field Quality Engineer (E&E) to lead field quality for electronics across carts and kiosks. You will manage market-escape containment, drive root-cause analysis, and implement durable corrective actions to reduce COPQ while boosting customer trust.

This remote-friendly role favors candidates near Eastern Time, with visits to Cincinnati, OH or New York, NY as needed. 8+ years in hardware quality and Mandarin proficiency are valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field.
• 8+ years hardware quality or reliability engineering for deployed electronics.
• 3+ years leading engineers or technicians with KPI ownership.
• Proven ownership of 8D, 5-Why, FMEA, CAPA, FRACAS with measurable KPI gains.
• Hands-on debugging with oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers; schematic reading.
• Experience driving fixes with contract manufacturers and suppliers.
• Knowledge of EMC/EMI and regulatory considerations for electronics.
• Proficiency with PLM and issue-tracking tools (Arena/Jira).
• Willingness to travel to customer/supplier sites as needed.
• Fluent Mandarin is a plus for cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end triage of field quality issues for electronic subsystems from detection to long-term fixes.
• Mentor a small team of field and quality engineers; set KPIs and drive accountability.
• Own 8D/5-Why/FMEA to identify root causes and implement preventive actions.
• Partner with R&D, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to validate fixes via DOE and field trials.
• Maintain FRACAS and a quality dashboard; quantify COPQ and prioritize remediation.
• Establish robust QA controls for incoming, in-process, and end-of-line testing.
• Serve as the escalation contact; communicate status to customers and executives.
• Support regulatory, safety, and EMC/EMI compliance in field changes.
• Travel to customer sites, supplier factories, and labs as needed.
