Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Hardware Engineer to lead the hardware development of wired connectivity technology, including SerDes and Ethernet interfaces, within the Network Technology and Design team. You will partner with ECU design and semiconductor teams to deliver high-performance, manufacturable hardware.

The role emphasizes hands-on bench work, design reviews, and cross-functional collaboration to ensure safety, reliability, and scalability of GM’s network solutions.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering / Electronics / Computer Science with 5+ years in hardware-focused roles.
• 3+ years of engineering experience in electronic hardware design and development.
• Working knowledge of automotive electronic hardware and software architecture.
• Strong circuit design, schematic creation, and PCB layout skills.
• Experience with Lab equipment (power supplies, oscilloscopes, signal generators, multimeters).
• Proven leadership in projects from conception to completion.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to integrate network technologies into ECU designs.
• Perform worst-case, signal integrity, and power integrity analyses for SerDes and Ethernet interfaces.
• Troubleshoot hardware issues and conduct root-cause analysis across ECUs and connectivity hardware.
• Conduct design reviews and provide feedback to ensure manufacturable designs meeting performance targets.
• Develop hardware requirements and test specs for SerDes/Ethernet connectivity and supporting circuitry.
• Develop a test strategy from component to production readiness.
• Lead bench test execution including bring-up, characterization, and debugging of hardware.
• Establish domain expertise for semiconductors and ECU product lines related to wired connectivity.
