Job summary

Amazon in Sunnyvale, CA seeks a Senior Hardware Engineer to own electrical design of consumer electronics. You will lead circuit/board design, validation, and collaborate with software, firmware, and mechanical teams across the product lifecycle.

You will work with ODMs/OEMs, drive system performance, debug manufacturing issues, and support high-volume production, including RF/WiFi integration and power management. Strong leadership and communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • MSEE or BSEE with extensive consumer product design experience.
  • 4+ years leading ODM/OEM collaborations for product development.
  • 7+ years system-level design including circuit design, bring-up, integration and debug.
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (DDR, eMMC, MIPI, USB, I2C, SPI, UART).
  • Knowledge of low-power design, power management, analog design, RF/EMI considerations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead system EE design and ownership of circuit/board development.
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and mechanical teams across product lifecycle.
  • Integrate multiple core product features (mics, speakers, display, cameras, sensors).

Job description

As a Senior Hardware Engineer you will be responsible for the electrical design of consumer electronic products. We are looking for candidates who thrive in a fast paced start-up like environment. In your lead role you will be the owner of all aspects of EE hardware design including, circuit/board design and validation. To be successful you need to be highly motivated and detail oriented while showing highest standards of responsibilities.

Key job responsibilities

As a Senior Hardware Engineer you will engage with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff to conceive and design innovative consumer products. You will work closely with internal inter-disciplinary teams, and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution and test. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment.

Responsibilities

As part of a system team you will work alongside system integrators and technology focused engineers who are subject matter experts of their fields. You will be responsible for integrating various core features of the product such as mics, speakers, display, cameras, and sensors, improving overall system quality, working with software/product design engineers to optimize product performance, and debugging tough systemic problems. You will be involved in projects from concept through production, gaining exposure to the complete design lifecycle. You will also support engineering builds gaining experience with high volume manufacturing.

  • Be a system EE lead focusing on integration of multiple technologies in the product
  • Work closely with cross-functional hardware, software, and mechanical teams
  • Lead the debugging of design and manufacturing issues related to hardware
  • Design and validate boards
  • Drive system performance validation
  • Travel internationally to support engineering builds if needed
Basic Qualifications
  • MSEE with at least 7 years of experience or BSEE with at least 10 years of experience in consumer product design
  • At least 4 years of experience of leading and working with ODM/OEMs for all stages of product development
  • At least 7 years of experience with system-level design including circuit design, system bring-up, integration, and debug
  • Complex system design experience, including SoC, high-speed bus topologies (DDR, eMMC, MIPI, etc) and/OR high speed design principles
  • Knowledge of low-power circuit design, DC/DC converters, power management methods, audio circuit design, and analog design
  • Knowledge of processor architecture, digital circuit design and various communications protocols such as I2C, UART, SPI, USB, MIPI, I2S, etc.
  • Knowledge of mixed-signal board-level design
  • Experience developing robust designs for ESD/EMI immunities and RF de-sensitization
  • Experience integrating RF technologies such as WIFI, BT, GPS, etc.
  • Experience leading and driving design development from schematic capture, PCB layout through assembly
  • Experience partnering with software teams to define and implement firmware, drivers and algorithms
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong interpersonal skills and capability to manage and drive various cross-functional team members
  • Understanding of high speed design and noise suppression techniques. Hands on experience with signal integrity tools is a plus
  • Experience in designing products for wireless networks (GSM, UMTS, LTE), GPS, WiFi and Bluetooth wireless systems
  • Strong communication and documentation skills and ability to operate autonomously
  • Complete understanding of manufacturing process including DFM and DFT for consumer products
Basic Qualifications
  • Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
  • Experience with the project management of technical projects

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
