Job summary

Seagate Technology in Bloomington, MN is seeking an experienced engineer to advance disc drive head and media test technology. You will work with teams across test equipment, electronics, data acquisition, and software to characterize heads and media for high-performance storage devices.

The role emphasizes hands-on lab work, problem-solving, and applying AI/ML to testing, with opportunities to publish technical reports and present findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; 12+ years experience or Master’s in same with 8+ years; PhD with 5+ years also acceptable.
• Strong programming in C/C++, MATLAB, Python and ability to develop automated solutions.
• Experience with electrical testing equipment and laboratory characterization.
• Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams; excellent communication.
• Six Sigma training or certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and apply advanced disc drive head and media test technology.
• Collaborate with engineers across test equipment, electronics, and data acquisition.
• Enable AI/ML testing and data analytics; publish reports and present findings.
• Design head/media evaluations and contribute to test algorithms and trouble-shooting.
• Perform hands-on lab work and troubleshoot complex systems.
