Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required; 12+ years experience or Master’s in same with 8+ years; PhD with 5+ years also acceptable.
  • Strong programming in C/C++, MATLAB, Python and ability to develop automated solutions.
  • Experience with electrical testing equipment and laboratory characterization.
  • Ability to work independently and in cross-functional teams; excellent communication.
  • Six Sigma training or certification is a plus.

Job description

This position is within Characterization and Analytics Group, Recording Head Technology Group. Our group is engaged in driving cutting-edge recording technology into products. The team works closely with technology development and product development teams. The team provides test system and metrology development and deployment, design assessment, product screening, failure mode and root cause understanding.

About the role - you will:
  • Develop and apply a broad range of advanced and innovative disc drive head and media test technology in an exciting team environment.
  • Collaborate with other engineers and groups throughout the company that develop test equipment mechanics, electronics and code, high frequency/high fidelity data acquisition and signal processing for systems involving data channels, preamps, recording heads and media for disc drives, factory and lab level test capability for characterizing heads and media.
  • Enable Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning testing development and data analytics. Design head/media evaluations, publish technical reports and make technical presentations on recording head characterization work and supporting test technology.
  • Work on test engineering that involves an understanding of digital magnetic recording principles and test algorithms, electronics, computers and software, data recovery channels and control code, andhead/disc tribology
  • Be involved with hands-on laboratory work and troubleshooting complex engineering systems.

Your experience includes:
  • Strong programming skills in C/C++, MATLAB, and Python, with the ability to develop, analyze, and automate engineering solutions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including experience with statistical analysis, data interpretation, and experimental design. Six Sigma training or certification is a plus.
  • Knowledge or hands on experience with electrical testing and characterization laboratory equipment, including signal measurement, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams, effectively communicating technical concepts and driving project outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering related field (i.e. Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Physics, or related engineering discipline) and 12+ years of experience or master’s degree in the same and 8+ years’ experience or PhD and 5+ years’ experience or equivalent experience and education.

  • Hands-on experience with electrical testing and characterization equipment, including oscilloscopes, signal analyzers, and diagnostic tools for signal processing, debugging, and root cause analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with system integration, testing, troubleshooting, and performance validation.
  • Industry experience applying principles of physics, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering to solve complex technical challenges.

The estimated base salary range for this position is $132,974.00 - $193,816.00. The individual salary is based on work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
