Job summary

American Family Insurance seeks a Lead Guidewire Developer to provide technical leadership for the Guidewire Commercial Lines PolicyCenter platform, driving design, development, modernization, and support of critical business applications. You will mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and collaborate across architects, product teams, and business stakeholders in a hybrid Madison, WI environment.

The role reports to the Senior Manager Engineering and may include relocation support.

Qualifications

• Experience with Guidewire PolicyCenter, BillingCenter and ClaimCenter is required.
• Strong background in software design, development, and modernization of enterprise applications.
• Ability to analyze complex systems and communicate technical concepts clearly.
• Experience leading technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and solution planning.
• Experience improving application performance, resiliency, and operational excellence.
• Familiarity with cloud technologies, automation, and observability tools.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the technical lead for the Guidewire CLPC platform and provide leadership for complex solutions.
• Lead solution design, technical reviews, and engineering decision-making to ensure scalable architectures.
• Collaborate with architects, product teams, and stakeholders to align tech with business objectives.
• Drive platform reliability, performance, maintainability, and operational excellence.
• Lead root cause analysis and implement long-term corrective actions for production issues.
• Mentor engineers and promote engineering standards and best practices.
• Evaluate emerging technologies to improve engineering effectiveness.
• Lead modernization initiatives focused on scalability and automation.
