Job summary

Governor Morehead School is seeking a Grounds Worker to maintain campus grounds, trees, shrubs, and landscapes. The role requires performing skilled tasks such as planting, mowing, pruning, and irrigation maintenance under supervision while safeguarding students, staff, and visitors.

The position operates Monday through Friday with occasional overtime during weather events; experience in groundskeeping and ability to lift up to 50 pounds are important, as is safe operation of landscape equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 3 years of grounds experience, including one year of supervisory experience.
• Ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work.
• Ability to operate grounds equipment safely.
• Equivalent education/experience may apply per state guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate and maintain lawns, trees, shrubs, flowers, and landscape beds.
• Prune and shape vegetation as needed.
• Mow, edge, and maintain grounds for a clean, professional appearance.
• Apply mulch, fertilizers, and landscape materials per procedures and safety rules.
• Operate and maintain landscaping equipment (weed trimmers, edgers, pruners, hedge trimmers, chainsaws, leaf blowers, zero-turn mowers).
• Inspect and service grounds equipment to extend life and reduce downtime.
• Remove debris and litter from grounds and landscaped areas.
• Assist with irrigation system maintenance and landscape improvements.
• Maintain sidewalks, parking lots, and entryways in safe condition.
• Follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Complete assigned work per oral and written instructions.
• Assist with special projects related to grounds maintenance and campus beautification.
