Job summary

Texas Department of Public Safety in Texas is seeking a senior Grounds & Maintenance Tech to perform high-level maintenance of buildings, grounds, and related systems. The role involves operating motorized equipment, mowing and landscaping, and routine preventive maintenance on facilities and site infrastructure, under limited supervision.

The position requires a high school diploma and at least one year of building trades experience, with preferred landscaping/grounds background.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in building trades work on commercial or residential projects.
• Competent skills in at least one area (frame, finishing, carpentry, plumbing, sanitation, painting, grounds, etc.). Landscaping/grounds experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled or semi-skilled work including preventative maintenance and repairs of buildings/grounds; plumbing, masonry, painting, roofing, drains, etc.
• Mow, trim, edge, fertilize, and water grass, shrubs and trees; operate related equipment.
• Remove leaves, weeds, dirt, rubbish from grounds; plant trees, flowers, shrubs to keep campus esthetically pleasing.
• Operate gas/diesel powered equipment for mowing and landscaping; apply sand or salt on icy pavement as needed.
• Inspect and perform minor equipment repairs; maintain tools, buildings, and grounds for safe operations.
• Assist with moving furniture and boxes using pallet jacks and dollies.
• Install and repair sprinkler systems; assist master plumber; manage watering schedules.
• Apply fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, or insecticides as appropriate.
