Job summary

The City of Big Spring is seeking a versatile groundsworker to perform maintenance, custodial, and groundskeeping tasks in city parks, facilities, and recreation sites. The role involves operating lawn and cleaning equipment, basic carpentry, pool upkeep, and grounds repair.

Ideal candidates read and write at high school level, have about one year related experience, possess a valid Texas driver’s license, and can obtain a Commercial Pesticide Applicator License.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One year of groundskeeping or related labor experience.
• Valid Texas driver’s license for the type of vehicle or equipment.
• State-certified Commercial Pesticide Applicator License or ability to obtain.
• Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance methods and safety rules.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic math.
• Ability to explain and demonstrate essential functions with reasonable accommodations.

Responsibilities

• Mow and maintain grass using tractors, mowers, and related equipment.
• Trim trees and edges; rake grounds and clean trash.
• Apply herbicides and pesticides.
• Perform basic carpentry and repairs.
• Custodial duties in parks and facilities; restroom cleaning and restocking.
• Pool maintenance: monitor chemicals, clean, and repair pumps.
• Maintain sprinklers and lines; paint buildings and lines.
• Assist with street maintenance tasks including cleaning basins and spreading materials.
• Prepare cemetery lots and related burial setup.
