Job summary

The Ben B. Cheney Foundation seeks a Senior Program Officer to develop and oversee grants, collaborate with staff and the Board, and advance community impact across Washington, Oregon and beyond. The SPO will lead evaluations, funder relationships, and strategic opportunities in education, health and social services.

Based in Tacoma, the role emphasizes an active listening, inclusive leadership style, and travel to partner sites to support programs and growth.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated leadership and management experience in philanthropy, programs, or nonprofit settings
• Strong written and verbal communication, collaboration and stakeholder engagement
• Ability to travel regionally and adapt to evolving community needs

Responsibilities

• Review letters of intent and proposals
• Develop recommendations for Executive Director and Board
• Present proposals internally for approval
• Research strategically with ED and board on funding opportunities
• Monitor grants and review grant reports
• Oversee the internal grantmaking process
• Represent the foundation with community partners and events
• Travel to sites to support and problem-solve with organizations
• Serve as a primary contact with grantees and potential grantees
