Job summary

Responsibilities

• Write competitive letters of intent, applications, proposals, reports, and supporting materials for foundation and government funding.

• Monitor government sites for RFPs, RFQs, and RFAs and create opportunity summaries.

Job description

A leading New York City nonprofit organization is seeking a Senior Grants Associate to support a diverse portfolio of foundation and government funding.

The Senior Grants Associate will help advance the organization’s resources and long-term financial sustainability by writing high-quality applications, proposals, reports, and supporting materials for competitive foundation and government funding opportunities.

This role reports to the Senior Director of Grants and Resource Development, works closely with the Director of Government Grants, and collaborates with members of the finance, program, development, and administrative teams.

Proposal & Report Writing

• Write high-quality, competitive letters of intent, applications, proposals, reports, and supporting materials for foundation, private, and government funding opportunities.
• Ensure content is accurate, compelling, and aligned with funder guidelines and requirements.

Prospect & Funder Research

• Research significant foundation and government funding opportunities.
• Monitor government websites for upcoming RFP, RFQ, and RFA releases.
• Develop detailed opportunity summaries to help assess eligibility, organizational fit, and funding potential.

Quality Review & Compliance

• Review grant applications, proposals, and reports for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with funder requirements prior to submission.
• Track deadlines, submissions, renewals, and other key milestones across an active grants portfolio.
• Liaise with government agencies and foundation professionals as appropriate and under the guidance of senior grant staff.
• Partner closely with program, finance, and development teams to gather information and supporting materials for grant submissions.
• Provide additional support to the Development Department as needed.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of grant-writing experience within social services, food security, and/or related fields.
• Experience with prospect research and cultivation.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to independently manage multiple deadlines and complex projects.
• Strong collaboration skills and a high degree of professionalism.
• Accountability, dependability, and sound judgment when handling information.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• Experience with government grant portals and CRM systems.
• Experience with data visualization and AI tools preferred.

Salary: $75,000-$85,000 annually
