Swinomish Indian Tribal Community seeks a Grants Accountant to support assigned funding agreements, including grant-funded capital projects and housing, ensuring audit-ready files and strong compliance.

The role collaborates with program managers to maximize grant funding utilization, oversees complex budgets, and provides expert financial oversight throughout the grant lifecycle in a tribal government setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field; equivalently educated candidates may be considered.
• CPA license or advanced coursework in grants management or public administration.
• 5+ years of fund accounting, project accounting, or grant program experience.
• Experience with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR 200) and grant closeout requirements.
• Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Develop grant workflow improvements and ensure data integrity in financial systems.
• Submit agreements and amendments to the repository in a timely manner.
• Maintain audit-ready digital records and metadata for tribal resources.
• Monitor multi-year grant budgets throughout project lifecycles.
• Review expenditures for allowability, allocability, and reasonableness under 2 CFR 200.
• Perform journal entries, revenue recognition, drawdowns, and invoicing.
• Conduct end-of-grant reconciliations of revenues, expenses, and allocations.
• Prepare financial reports per award terms and conditions.
• Act as financial liaison with agencies and program directors; support site reviews.
• Advise on cost allocations, sustainability, and grant proposal budgeting.
• Lead kickoff and closeout strategy meetings with staff.
• Assist in grant audits and SEFA preparation as needed.
• Create variance analyses to prevent overallocation or underutilization.
• Collaborate to troubleshoot and support operational needs.
• Serve as alternate approver for JV/ARB documents to ensure GAAP compliance.
