Schedule Details/Additional Information:

**Experience working within grant accounting for a non-profit organization preferred. Position is fully remote.**

Due to complex requirements, remote work is NOT permitted in: CA, DC, CO, CT, HI, MA, MD, MN, NJ, NY, OR, RI, VT, WA and/or working internationally.

The Senior Grant Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of grant accounting within the organization, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and private funding regulations. This role includes financial reporting, budget management, monitoring of grant expenditures, and supporting audit processes.

Major Responsibilities:
  1. Performs monthly closing procedures, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and statistical analysis to ensure the accuracy of the financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP, governmental regulations, AAH accounting policies, and the financial close schedule.
  2. Prepares, reviews, and analyzes financial statements and reports, including comparison to budget and historical trends, in accordance with AAH’s accounting policies and U.S. GAAP to ensure accurate financial statements in collaboration with the Financial Reporting Team for all internal/external reporting requirements.
  3. Investigates, researches, and participates in the development and implementation of new policies or procedures related to internal financial reporting matters raised by finance or operations to ensure financial activity is recorded in a manner consistent with Advocate Aurora Health’s accounting policies and procedures and U.S. GAAP.
  4. Reviews assigned areas of responsibility for continuous process improvement and participates in the development and implementation of improved procedures.
  5. Ensures accurate and timely completion of and response to internal and external auditors’ requests and queries. Responds to requests and queries related to reporting and regulatory requirements. Prepares analysis of estimation and risk areas while providing input and recommendations for issue resolution to Accounting Management.
  6. Responsible for ad-hoc reporting, analysis, and special assignments, as needed.
  7. Monitors, evaluates, implements, and adheres to internal controls over areas of responsibility.
  8. Prepares tax returns and schedules in collaboration with the Tax team.
  9. Maintains job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
  • Typically requires 5 years of experience in accounting
  • Demonstrated strong working knowledge of US GAAP and government rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of general ledger and related financial and revenue cycle business intelligence systems (e.g., Workday and Epic)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with all levels of staff, management, executives, providers, physicians, and external organizations
  • Self-motivated, results-driven, and detail-oriented
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent computer skills with a strong knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar products
  • Proactive, self-starter capable of working independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
