Job summary

Santa Fe County is seeking an experienced accounting professional to perform accounting and budgetary clerical functions with a focus on processing accounts payable or payroll.

The role includes reviewing and preparing accounting data, auditing timecards and invoices, and supporting budget development. You will ensure compliance with NM Procurement Code and county fiscal policies while collaborating with finance staff to process payments and maintain records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four (4) years of experience in accounting, auditing, finance, economics, or general business administration; or a combination of college education, training and experience in accounting totaling four (4) years.
• Relevant education may be substituted for experience at a rate of 30 semester hours equal to one (1) year experience.

Responsibilities

• Review and prepare accounting data input documents; record revenues, expenditures, and/or encumbrances; use accounting system reports for review and reconciliation.
• Oversee assigned accounts, contracts, grants, or other defined areas of accounting.
• Process biweekly payroll and audit timecards for accuracy; audit invoices for accuracy and completion.
• Prepare reports, schedules, summaries, and audits; assist in budgetary review and procedures.
• Post and maintain books of accounts; learn new accounting concepts, systems, and controls; audit special programs as designated.
• Ensure compliance with NM Procurement Code and county fiscal policies.
• Work with county finance, procurement, and accounting staff to ensure payment of accounts payable.
• Review benefits for union contracts and taxable vs non-taxable.
• Process garnishments and employee paperwork; month-end, quarterly, or annual reports including W-2s.
• Ensure proper record retention and respond to communications.
• Perform various financial and administrative functions as assigned.
