Job summary

Chainguard is seeking a Senior Engineer on the Package and Image Automation squad to design and build AI-powered tooling for manifest generation, test scaffolding, and image building. You’ll contribute to production Go services and CLI tooling, ensuring reliable automation across our image factory.

You will collaborate with a distributed team across US/Canada and Europe/India, shaping the squad's roadmap and impacting the broader supply chain security tooling.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of software engineering experience with a track record of designing and building complex systems.
• Strong Go expertise.
• Experience with AI/LLM integration: building systems that use language models for code generation, automation, or developer tooling.
• Familiarity with prompt engineering, evaluation, and guardrails.
• Systems architecture skills: able to design loosely-coupled, scalable systems and make pragmatic trade-offs.
• Experience building developer tools, CLIs, or automation platforms.
• Deep Linux and build systems knowledge: package managers, build tools, and containerization.
• Container ecosystem expertise: Docker, OCI, container registries, Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

• Build the automation platform: design systems that orchestrate package creation, test generation, and image building.
• Build AI-powered tooling: develop LLM-integrated pipelines for manifest generation, test scaffolding, and validation.
• Write production Go: develop CLI tools, services, and integrations with the team.
• Build quality tooling: create tooling and automation to improve customer reliability, including test generators and validation frameworks.
• Help shape the roadmap: contribute technical input into planning in a small squad.
• Collaborate across a distributed team: work with time zones US/Canada and EU/India.
