Job summary

refurbed is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design and implement scalable backend services powering its marketplace. You will join a cross-functional squad, collaborating with engineers, product managers, designers, and business stakeholders to deliver robust, high-performance solutions.

In this role, you will work with Go, gRPC, PostgreSQL, Redis, RabbitMQ, and a frontend stack, deploying on Google Cloud Platform with Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of experience designing and building scalable backend services in a modern production environment.
• Strong proficiency in Go and deep understanding of distributed systems and service-oriented architecture.
• Proficient in SQL and relational database design.
• General knowledge of frontend concepts and ability to perform basic tasks in frontend apps.
• Self-starter with ownership, initiative, and rapid learning of complex systems.
• Clear, respectful communication and collaborative mindset across teams.
• Excellent English skills and EU time-zone based.
• Degree in Computer Science (or related field) or equivalent work experience.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain core APIs and backend services for Refurbed's marketplace.
• Own operations and monitoring of production systems.
• Integrate third-party systems and APIs into the platform.
• Own design and implementation of new features and services.
• Mentor junior colleagues and contribute to onboarding new joiners.
• Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Proactively share insights and results in relevant meetings.
• Occasionally propagate backend changes to frontend.
