Job summary

Remitly in Seattle, WA is seeking an experienced engineering leader for our Global Experience Platform to own i18n infrastructure and AI-powered translation tooling. You will define the technical roadmap, deliver complex features end-to-end, and mentor engineers through reviews and onboarding.

You will partner with Localization, Product, Design and Legal to ship globally ready experiences in 18+ languages across 175+ countries, raising quality and consistency for customers worldwide.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software development with hands-on i18n/l10n engineering and leading delivery of complex features.
• TypeScript/JavaScript (including React or React Native) and a backend language such as Go, Java, Kotlin, or Python, or equivalent; quick to pick up new stacks.
• Experience applying AI/LLMs in production with good judgement on automation vs human review.
• Working knowledge of Unicode, ICU/CLDR, locale-aware formatting, and resource file formats.
• Track record building or scaling localization systems and translation pipelines.
• Clear cross-functional communication and ability to teach teams why i18n matters.

Responsibilities

• Own complex, team-level projects end to end: clarify requirements, break work into tasks, guide teammates to on-time delivery.
• Establish the technical roadmap for internationalization engineering balancing near-term launches with long-term scalability.
• Drive build-or-buy decisions for AI-powered translation orchestration and governance, setting quality standards as AI scales content.
• Partner with Localization, Product, Design, Legal, Marketing and Engineering to build i18n in early stages and adopt shared standards.
• Mentor engineers through code/design reviews, interviews, and onboarding.
• Build AI/LLM-powered translation tooling and integrate into production localization pipelines.
• Expand language coverage, including right-to-left support and transliteration tooling.
