Job summary

Flexport seeks a Senior Trade Advisory Associate, Classification to manage HS classification projects and provide expert guidance to clients and internal teams. You will classify products under HTS, coordinate with stakeholders, and ensure precise transfer of product data.

You will stay informed on CBP regulations and tariff changes, audit classifications, and contribute to improving classification workflows while maintaining strong client communication and documentation standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university.
• Licensed Customs Broker required; J.D. or graduate degree a plus.
• Trade compliance experience in house, at customs brokerage, or consulting preferred.
• 2–4 years of experience in classification of a broad range of commodities, including apparel, machinery, and automotive.
• Proficiency with global Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS).
• Schedule B and Export Control Classification Number (ECCN) experience a plus.
• Experience reviewing government regulations and rulings, CBP Cross, USTR, Customs Info, Lexis Nexis, etc., and other trade information to assist with classification review.
• Understanding of FTAs and GSP.
• Ability to navigate complex rules and regulations.
• Strong writing and communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and detail-oriented with superior organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving.

Responsibilities

• Manage HS classification service and projects for clients and internal stakeholders.
• Classify products under HTS and other global schedules.
• Own HS classification projects and maintain accurate client databases.
• Analyze and assign proper HS classifications for client-imported products.
• Audit classifications for accuracy and stay updated on CBP rulings.
• Apply knowledge of Section 301 tariffs and exclusions.
• Document classification processes and improve procedures.
