Job summary

3M is seeking an Intellectual Property Counsel to prepare and prosecute patents globally, support IP disputes, and advise on sophisticated IP matters across the business units. You will interact with clients, outside counsel, and international colleagues while handling complex IP projects.

This role requires top-tier legal credentials and international IP experience. The position is on-site at the Maplewood, MN location with domestic/international travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start).
• Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
• Three years of law firm and/or in-house IP experience.
• Member of a United States state bar in good standing.
• Registered to Practice before the USPTO.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patent applications and prosecute patents globally.
• Handle opposition, IPR, and litigation-related support activities in IP disputes.
• Act as direct contact for business clients, outside counsel, and international colleagues.
• Provide IP services in dispute management, transaction services, compliance, and advice.
• Work independently on matters of significant complexity and importance.
• Provide legal services to large, complex businesses.
• Lead transactional processes for IP transactions of significant impact and/or complexity.
• Manage IP litigation and other forms of dispute resolution for significant matters.
• Be a subject matter expert in some areas of IP law and take on responsibilities beyond a single unit or country.
• Handle other duties as assigned
