Job summary

3M is seeking a Patent Administrator to join our global IP team at the Maplewood, MN site. You will manage large patent dockets, coordinate US and international filings, and prepare prosecution-related communications to ensure timely patent protection worldwide.

The role requires strong IP administrative experience, analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate across geographies. On-site work four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
• Five years of IP administrative experience in private, public, government or military environments.
• Additional qualifications include IP management systems experience (Anaqua) and knowledge of patent laws across geographies.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a large, business group-wide patent docket in collaboration with GLSC to ensure deadlines are met and patent rights are maintained worldwide.
• Coordinate information and instructions to assist patent attorneys/agents with US/international filings and prosecution.
• Independently obtain data and compose detailed prosecution-related correspondence with knowledge of US and international rules.
• Analyze incoming patent communications and determine required actions and appropriate responses.
• Support global patent team by coordinating multiple worldwide dockets, preparing reports, and responding to client inquiries.
• Identify and solve problems by interpreting data and researching government rules/guidelines (MPEP, CFR, Global Patent Office websites).
• Document solutions, publish updates in Patent Practices Manual and present process changes to peers.
• Use public databases to chart information about non-3M patents and publications for IP agreements or litigation.
• Emphasize cost-efficiency by meeting deadlines and communicating with domestic and international colleagues.
