Job summary

SOCOTEC US is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to join our Bay Area team in San Jose, Walnut Creek, or Alameda, CA. The successful candidate will manage geotechnical, forensic, and construction projects, working closely with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities include field exploration, logging borings, slope and settlement analyses, preparing proposals and technical reports, and mentoring staff. California PE license is required; a MS in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.

Qualifications

• California PE license is REQUIRED.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years geotechnical engineering experience; experience with a geotechnical consulting firm preferred.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles.
• Experience with field exploration, soil classification, geotechnical analyses, and report preparation.
• Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret laboratory/field data.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage geotechnical, forensic, and construction projects.
• Interact directly with clients and manage project budgets.
• Coordinate and participate in field activities (logging borings, test pits, trenches, cores).
• Evaluate geologic and seismic hazards; perform slope and settlement analyses.
• Prepare geotechnical engineering proposals and technical reports.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to staff engineers, geologists, and field technicians.
