Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer for our Bay Area team (San Jose, Walnut Creek, or Alameda). You will manage geotechnical, forensic, and construction projects while coordinating with clients and internal teams. The role requires a California PE license, 5+ years' experience, and strong soil mechanics knowledge.

Office-based in the Bay Area with mentorship, training, and a collaborative environment. Salary ranges from $100,000 to $135,000 per year, depending on qualifications.

Qualifications

• California PE license required.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Geotechnical/Geological Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years geotechnical engineering experience; consulting firm preferred.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics and subsurface investigation methods.
• Experience with field exploration, soil classification, analyses, and report preparation.
• Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret laboratory/field data.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Manage geotechnical, forensic, and construction projects.
• Interact with clients and manage project budgets.
• Coordinate field activities: logging borings, test pits, trenches, cores.
• Evaluate geologic and seismic hazards.
• Perform slope stability, settlement, and foundation analyses.
• Prepare geotechnical proposals and technical reports.
• Provide technical mentorship to staff engineers, geologists, and field technicians.
