Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a Project Geotechnical Engineer to join our Bay Area team in San Jose, CA. The successful candidate will manage geotechnical, forensic, and construction projects, working closely with clients and internal teams.

Responsibilities include field logging, earthwork and slope stability analyses, and preparing technical reports while mentoring staff engineers and coordinating with geologists and technicians. California PE license is required and the position is full-time in-office.

Qualifications

• California PE license REQUIRED.
• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of geotechnical engineering experience; experience with a geotechnical consulting firm preferred.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering principles, and subsurface investigation methods.
• Experience with field exploration, soil classification, geotechnical analyses, and report preparation.
• Ability to perform technical calculations and interpret laboratory and field data.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage geotechnical, forensic, and construction projects.
• Interact directly with clients and manage project budgets.
• Coordinate and participate in field activities, including logging borings, test pits, trenches, and cores.
• Evaluate geologic and seismic hazards.
• Perform slope stability, settlement, and foundation analyses.
• Prepare geotechnical engineering proposals and technical reports.
• Provide technical support and mentorship to staff engineers, geologists, and field technicians.
