Job summary

Atlas is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead and support a wide range of infrastructure projects across public and private sectors in California and beyond. You will provide senior technical oversight, manage complex designs, and guide teams from planning through construction.

The ideal candidate brings 15+ years in geotechnical engineering, CA licensure, and deep knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, foundation design, and earthquake engineering.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
• 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience including design, field investigations and construction supervision.
• Licensed Geotechnical Engineer in California required.
• Local experience with regional practices and strong communication skills.
• Deep knowledge of soil/rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, pavement engineering and groundwater hydrogeology.
• Experience with geotechnical software and familiarity with DSA/CGS, Caltrans and DoD UFC/NAVFAC.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior technical oversight for geotechnical design and analysis on a range of projects.
• Lead investigations, data interpretation, and monitoring programs to ensure quality and on-time delivery.
• Guide teams from planning through design and construction and support client engagement.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to business development efforts.
• Collaborate with regulators and stakeholders to address geotechnical concerns.
