Job summary

Atlas is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer in California to lead and support a broad range of infrastructure projects. The role requires senior technical oversight, design leadership, and guidance through planning, design and construction phases.

The ideal candidate has deep geotechnical expertise, strong leadership, and a track record delivering projects in compliance with local, state, and federal requirements, including NAVFAC markets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s in Geotechnical preferred.
• 15+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering including design, field investigations and construction supervision.
• Licensed Geotechnical Engineer in California required.
• Local experience and familiarity with regional engineering practices.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills for team collaboration.
• Deep knowledge of soil/rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, pavement engineering and groundwater hydrogeology.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects for a wide range of public and private sector projects.
• Lead geotechnical design, investigation and analysis for buildings and infrastructure.
• Direct subsurface explorations, lab testing, data interpretation, and instrumentation monitoring.
• Lead design and analysis for foundations, earthworks, slope stability, seepage and earthquake-related aspects.
• Provide geotechnical support during construction including foundations, pile driving and earthwork operations.
• Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to address geotechnical concerns.
• Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers while supporting business development.
