Job summary

Atlas is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead and support infrastructure projects across public and private sectors in California. The role combines senior technical oversight, complex design, and team leadership, delivering projects compliant with local, state, and federal requirements.

Expect engagement with clients, quality control, and growth in transportation, infrastructure, and NAVFAC markets.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering is required; Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including design and analysis, field investigations, and construction supervision.
  • Licensed Geotechnical Engineer in the state of California required.
  • Local experience and familiarity with regional engineering practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support effective team collaboration.
  • Deep technical knowledge of soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrogeology.
  • Experience with geotechnical software and familiarity with DSA/CGS, Caltrans, and DoD UFC/NAVFAC.

Responsibilities

  • Provide senior-level technical oversight on geotechnical projects across public and private sectors.
  • Lead geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure.
  • Direct subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, data interpretation, instrumentation monitoring.
  • Lead design and analysis for foundations, earthworks, slope stability, seepage, and earthquake engineering.
  • Provide geotechnical support during construction and site operations.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies on geotechnical concerns.
  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers and support business development.
