Job summary

Atlas is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to lead a wide range of infrastructure and facilities projects across public and private sectors in California. You will provide senior technical oversight, manage complex geotechnical designs, and guide teams from planning through construction.

The ideal candidate has deep geotechnical expertise, strong leadership, and proven experience delivering compliant projects.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred.
  • 15+ years of experience in geotechnical engineering, including design and analysis, field investigations, and construction supervision.
  • Licensed Geotechnical Engineer in California required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to lead teams and engage clients.
  • Experience with geotechnical software and familiarity with DSA/CGS, Caltrans, and NAVFAC DoD UFC requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects across public and private sector projects.
  • Lead geotechnical design, investigations and analysis for buildings and infrastructure.
  • Direct subsurface explorations, lab testing, data interpretation, and monitoring programs.
  • Lead foundation, earthworks, slope stability, seepage, and earthquake engineering tasks.
  • Support construction with foundations, drilled shafts, pile driving, grading, trenching.
  • Collaborate with clients, regulators to address geotechnical concerns.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support business development efforts.
