Job summary

Atlas is seeking a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to provide technical leadership across geotechnical investigations, design, construction support, and client coordination for public and private projects. The role includes mentoring junior engineers, guiding data interpretation, and contributing to business development.

Office is in Lakewood, CO, with sign on bonus and relocation assistance. The ideal candidate has a Civil Engineering degree, 10+ years in geotechnical practice, and a Colorado

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering required; master’s in geotechnical engineering preferred.
• Minimum 10 years in geotechnical engineering with emphasis on design, field investigation, and construction supervision.
• Licensed Professional Engineer in Colorado is required.
• Local experience and familiarity with local engineering practice is required.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team‑based work.
• Extensive geotechnical background in soil/rock mechanics, earthquake, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrogeology.
• Experience with geotechnical software including slope stability packages, pile modeling tools, site response software preferred.
• Familiarity with CDOT standards, guidelines, and deliverables is preferred.
• Experience in construction oversight for foundation construction and earthwork observation

Responsibilities

• Provide technical guidance on geotechnical aspects for diverse projects per guidelines.
• Lead geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure.
• Direct subsurface explorations, lab testing, data interpretation, and instrumentation monitoring.
• Supervise geotechnical support during construction of foundations and earthwork.
• Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and agencies to resolve geotechnical issues and support business development.
• Mentor junior geotechnical engineers and contribute to professional development and associations.
• Oversee and maintain Atlas quality program and accreditations.
