Job summary

Schnabel Engineering in Jersey City, NJ seeks a Senior/Supervising Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex geotechnical and interdisciplinary projects across the Northeast and nationwide. You will manage investigations, analyses, and designs for dams, flood protection, and heavy-civil works, while mentoring staff and guiding business development.

You will contribute to a collaborative culture, publish papers, and advance Schnabel's brand through client partnerships and technical leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Geotechnical/Civil Engineering (Master's preferred).
• 8+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
• Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to become registered within 6 months.
• Strong fundamentals in geotechnical/geostructural engineering, soil/rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
• Experience developing automated workflows; Python proficiency a plus.
• Excellent communication skills to clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
• Geotechnical expertise with dams, levees, flood barriers, cofferdams, and hydraulic structures.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage, and provide technical support for geotechnical projects.
• Develop and oversee field investigations, data analysis, and design for soil/rock mechanics and foundations.
• Mentor and develop geotechnical staff.
• Support business development, including proposals and client relations.
• Plan, schedule, and manage resources to deliver high-quality work on time and budget.
• Promote data-driven design and automated workflows to improve efficiency.
• Foster a collaborative office culture and contribute to Schnabel's brand.
