We are seeking a CMT/Geotechnical Engineer (CMT Materials Engineer 2) to join our Raleigh, NC team! Come join us!

Job Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To

  • Effectively manage projects, resources, and staff while providing expert technical guidance in geotechnical engineering across diverse projects—in both public and private sectors—and ensure strict adherence to applicable guidelines.
  • Lead geotechnical design, investigation, and analysis for buildings and infrastructure projects, including residential/commercial buildings, bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and levees/basins.
  • Direct and supervise subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, geotechnical data interpretation, and geotechnical instrumentation monitoring programs to ensure a high-quality, timely, and within-budget delivery of the projects.
  • Supervise and lead geotechnical design and analysis for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks recommendations, slope stability and seepage analyses, lateral earth pressure calculations, and other pertinent analyses in support of a wide range of projects in public and private sectors.
  • Supervise and lead geotechnical support during construction of geotechnical elements, including shallow and deep foundations, grading, utility trenching, and other earthwork operations.
  • Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and governmental personnel, ensuring that all geotechnical concerns are addressed comprehensively.
  • Mentor and train junior geotechnical engineers and foster their professional development.
  • Provide support for business development activities by fostering and maintaining long-term client relationships and developing a client base for providing high-level geotechnical engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities.
  • Play an active role in professional associations.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS or MS in Civil Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in geotechnical engineering practice with an emphasis on geotechnical design and analysis, geotechnical field investigation, and construction supervision
  • Professional Engineer License in North Carolina
  • Local experience and familiarity with local engineering practice

Technical Requirements

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based working.
  • Extensive geotechnical background including a strong fundamental knowledge of principles of geotechnical engineering, soil and rock mechanics, earthquake engineering, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrology.
  • Experience in construction oversight for foundation and pavement construction and earthwork observation.
  • Experience with geotechnical engineering software.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead geotechnical projects and manage teams of geologists and geotechnical engineers.

Other Miscellaneous Qualities

  • Ability to travel, if so what 30% of the time
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Must be able to pass a background check for clearance to work on various private and government facilities.
