Job Description

The Terracon office in Winter Park has an immediate opening for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and strong technical team, build and maintain client relationships, and grow our consulting engineering practice. Our Sr. Geotechnical Engineers will provide engineering and consulting services for public works or local transportation sector projects and clients.

This may include performing and/or leading field investigations, engineering analyses, calculations, and recommendations, design and development of plans and specifications, observation and inspection, and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports for the services provided. Review drawings and construction to assure compliance with plans and specifications. Prepare proposals and cost estimates, track and evaluate project progress, budgets, and recommend changes. Research and resolve design and construction problems. Assign, review, and evaluate laboratory or field data for inclusion in reports. Apply sound engineering principles and be able to communicate complex engineering issues and concepts to technical and non-technical clients and project teams.

Essential Roles And Responsibilities

• Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
• Maintain quality standards on all projects.
• Manage and execute small to medium projects, and sometimes more complex projects.
• Develop scope of work for transportation projects of various sizes.
• Prepare cost estimates, specifications, and project documents.
• Analyze data and perform engineering calculations and analysis.
• Coordinate and supervise field investigations, laboratory testing, and data evaluation.
• Develop plans, schedules, and coordinate project phases.
• Collaborate with senior project managers for project management and engineering growth.
• Make design recommendations and modifications.
• Prepare work scope, proposals, reports, and plan investigations for approval.
• Serve as a technical adviser to junior team members.
• Supervise field staff including engineers, technicians, exploration teams, and laboratory personnel.
• Possess technical expertise in geotechnical engineering, especially for transportation projects.
• Engage with clients and project teams to develop scope and communicate progress.
• Experience with State Department of Transportation projects is highly desirable.
• Experience in client engagement, proposal writing, marketing, sales, and business development for transportation projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with at least 10 years of related experience, or 14 years without a degree.
• Master’s degree in Engineering preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) registration.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
