Job Responsibilities

1. Act as a subject matter expert for geotechnical engineering, perform complex analysis, investigations, testing, and develop recommendations and designs.
2. Lead or participate in engineering studies, analyze data, and prepare reports and solutions.
3. Ensure tasks are completed on schedule according to VDOT standards, policies, and procedures.
4. Develop and recommend policies, procedures, and process improvements, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations.
5. Serve as responsible charge engineer, interpreting regulations and performing geotechnical research for standards and specifications.
6. Review plans and reports, providing technical guidance with focus on geotechnical, structural, roadway, and drainage aspects.
7. Lead geotechnical project teams, ensuring effective communication and technical accuracy.
8. Visit projects to evaluate conditions and guide field staff.

Minimum Qualifications

• Valid Professional Engineer's license (excluding FE or EIT)
• Experience in geotechnical analysis and design
• Valid driver's license
• Ability to develop complex technical reports
• Experience leading geotechnical projects and overseeing consultants
• Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or related field

Additional Considerations

• Knowledge of project management and negotiation skills
• Experience in managing geotechnical projects and resolving complex issues
• Experience supporting slope, retaining wall, and roadway repairs
• Experience directing junior staff
