Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a Senior Geomechanical Engineer for the Tyrone, NM site. You will provide geomechanical project oversight, review outside consultants, assess slope stability, and interface with mine design and planning to ensure safe, efficient operations.

The role requires a degree in Mine/Geotechnical Engineering and several years of hard rock mining experience in rock mechanics and slope stability, with strong analytical and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mine/Geological/Geotechnical Eng or related engineering discipline with 5+ years in hard rock mining rock mechanics and slope stability.
• Master's degree with 3+ years in hard rock mining rock mechanics and slope stability.
• Knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
• Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to recognize hazards.

Responsibilities

• Provide geomechanical project oversight and review for outside consultants and mine design.
• Review slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work.
• Communicate slope stability information to mine site personnel.
• Inspect pit walls, stockpiles and site access roads.
• Develop and implement plans to enhance slope stability and geomechanical analyses.
