Job summary

The Wyoming State Geological Survey in Laramie is seeking a Natural Resources Principal (ENNR10) to advance 3D geological mapping and modeling of Wyoming's subsurface resources. You will conduct data analysis, lead fieldwork, and apply advanced geologic software to build robust subsurface models.

As part of a team, you will forecast oil and gas production, manage projects, mentor geologists, and communicate findings to stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology or closely related field (master's degree preferred)
  • Experience in 3D geological mapping/modeling, data analysis, and geologic software is essential
  • Familiarity with Wyoming's geology and natural resources is a strong plus
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects
  • Experience with oil and gas forecasting

Responsibilities

  • 3D geological mapping and reporting: Develop comprehensive reports and maps using 3D modeling and visualization techniques
  • Advanced data analysis: Conduct in-depth research and interpretation of geological data for 3D subsurface models
  • Fieldwork expertise: Plan and lead field expeditions and document formations
  • Technical proficiency: Use geological software to analyze well logs, cores, and subsurface data
  • Project management: Craft project plans, manage budgets, and mentor a team of geologists
  • Production and price forecasts: Participate in oil and natural gas forecasting for Wyoming
  • Public outreach: Respond to inquiries and represent the agency at outreach events
