Job summary

Wyoming State Geological Survey is seeking a Natural Resources Principal (ENNR10) to advance 3D geological mapping and modeling for Wyoming's subsurface resources. You will analyze data, lead fieldwork, and use advanced geologic software to produce impactful reports and maps.

Ideal candidates have a geology degree (master's preferred), strong communication skills, and experience with oil and gas forecasting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Geology or closely related field; master's preferred.
  • Experience in 3D geological mapping/modeling, data analysis, and geologic software is essential.
  • Familiarity with Wyoming geology and natural resources is a strong plus.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; strong communication and collaboration abilities.

Responsibilities

  • 3D geological mapping and reporting: Develop reports and maps using 3D modeling and visualization; provide constructive feedback on colleagues' work.
  • Advanced data analysis: Research and interpret geological data to inform 3D subsurface models.
  • Fieldwork: Plan and lead field expeditions; collect rock and water samples; document formations.
  • Technical proficiency: Use geological software to analyze logs, cores, and subsurface data; integrate lab data.
  • Project management: Craft project plans, oversee budgets, and potentially secure grants; mentor a team of geologists.
  • Production and price forecasts: Participate in oil and natural gas forecasting for Wyoming.
  • Public outreach: Respond to inquiries, give presentations, represent the agency at events.
