Job summary

Superior Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing, Inc. is seeking an experienced Generator Technician to support its Southern California division. Technicians may begin their service routes from their home address and travel to Orange County, Los Angeles County, and/or the Inland Empire.

The ideal candidate has at least eight years of hands-on generator preventive maintenance and repair experience, with strong commercial electrical knowledge related to stationary generators and optimal performance.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of eight years of recent experience performing commercial generator maintenance.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety practices.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and motor vehicle background check.
  • Must possess personal hand tools required to perform mechanical work and voltage testing.

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspect and diagnose issues with natural gas and/or gasoline-powered standby commercial generators.
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, battery replacements, and servicing of belts, spark plugs, and other mechanical components.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel generator systems.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of both DC and AC voltage systems.
  • Troubleshoot and service Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) with proficiency.
  • Conduct load bank testing to ensure generator performance under load.
  • Educate end users on proper generator operation and basic maintenance procedures.
  • Provide service and repair recommendations to maintain equipment in optimal working condition.
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Operate a company vehicle and complete fleet maintenance reports as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance, and repair work performed.
  • Communicate effectively with management, team members, and clients to ensure clear understanding of service needs and solutions.
