Job summary

Superior Electrical, Mechanical & Plumbing, Inc. is seeking an experienced Generator Technician to support our Southern California division.

The technician will inspect, maintain, and repair standby generators, with routes starting from home and travel across Orange County, Los Angeles County, and the Inland Empire. Ideal candidates have eight+ years of hands-on generator maintenance, deep electrical knowledge, and the ability to read schematics.

Qualifications

  • At least eight years of generator maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA electrical safety practices.
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug test and background check.
  • Proficient English communication, written and verbal.
  • Own personal hand tools and ability to test voltage.
  • Willingness to commute to various job sites in Southern California.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect and diagnose generator systems (gasoline/natural gas) for standby commercial units.
  • Perform routine maintenance: oil changes, filters, batteries, belts, spark plugs.
  • Work with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, Detroit Diesel gensets.
  • Troubleshoot ATS and perform load bank testing.
  • Educate end users on operation and basic maintenance.
  • Read schematics and manuals; document inspections and repairs.
  • Operate company vehicle and maintain fleet reports.
  • Communicate with management and clients to clarify service needs.

Description

Superior Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing, Inc. (SEMP) is a statewide provider of commercial skilled trade services with over 20 years of experience delivering reliable electrical, mechanical, and plumbing solutions. We are seeking an experienced Generator Technician to support our Southern California division. Technicians may begin their service routes from their home address.

The ideal candidate will have at least eight years of recent, hands-on experience performing generator preventive maintenance and repairs, along with strong commercial electrical knowledge related to stationary generators and their optimal performance.

  • Monday through Friday
  • Travel opportunities
  • Overtime available but not guaranteed
Responsibilities
  • Visually inspect and diagnose issues with natural gas and/or gasoline-powered standby commercial generators
  • Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes, filter replacements, battery replacements, and servicing of belts, spark plugs, and other mechanical components
  • Demonstrate knowledge and experience with CAT, Cummins, Generac, Kohler, or Detroit Diesel generator systems
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of both DC and AC voltage systems
  • Troubleshoot and service Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) with proficiency
  • Conduct load bank testing to ensure generator performance under load
  • Educate end users on proper generator operation and basic maintenance procedures
  • Provide service and repair recommendations to maintain equipment in optimal working condition
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Operate a company vehicle and complete fleet maintenance reports as required
  • Maintain accurate records of all inspections, maintenance, and repair work performed
  • Communicate effectively with management, team members, and clients to ensure clear understanding of service needs and solutions
Requirements
  • Minimum of eight years of recent experience performing commercial generator maintenance
  • Basic understanding of NFPA 70E, OSHA regulations, and general electrical safety practices
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and motor vehicle background check
  • Proficient English communication skills, both written and verbal, for preparing reports and emails
  • Must possess personal hand tools required to perform mechanical work and voltage testing
  • Willingness to commute to various job sites using company vehicles within Orange County, Los Angeles County, and/or the Inland Empire
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment
