Job summary

Expedia Group is seeking a Sr. Machine Learning Scientist for Agentic AI & GenAI Systems in Seattle.

You will architect end-to-end GenAI and multi-agent pipelines, integrating frontend/UI with robust backend systems, while shaping scalable, user-centric AI products for travel discovery and personalization. The role emphasizes hands-on development, cross-functional collaboration, and leadership, with focus on safety, observability, and production readiness.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering, ML, and AI systems, with production GenAI deployments.
• Deep expertise in LLM training, adaptation, distillation, RLHF/DPO, and RAG systems.
• Strong NLP foundation and experience with multimodal AI systems (vision-language).
• Proven experience building and operating multi-agent AI platforms with observability and safety frameworks.
• Experience with distributed GPU training and cloud infrastructure (AWS/Azure).
• Ability to lead end-to-end AI product development and collaborate with product/design teams.
• Excellent communication skills for presenting complex concepts to executives.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, and ship enterprise-scale GenAI, RAG, and multi-agent systems end-to-end, including frontend and UI elements.
• Design hierarchical multi-agent ecosystems with Interactive Generative UIs, dashboards, and safety/observability features.
• Develop memory architectures: short-term/contextual memory, long-term memory, knowledge graphs, and adaptive retrieval.
• Lead implementation of RAG pipelines, vector memory, and agent orchestration frameworks; evaluate with synthetic data.
• Train, fine-tune, adapt, and distill LLMs for production-ready chatbots and GenAI products.
• Build multimodal pipelines integrating vision, audio, text, and structured data.
• Collaborate with product/engineering to create intuitive interfaces and seamless user experiences.
• Mentor engineers and ML scientists; set technical standards and contribute to maturity.
• Represent the org externally via open-source contributions, patents, conferences, and publications.
