Job summary

Allison Transmission seeks a Senior Gear Systems Engineer to advance gear and powertrain designs for Off-Highway applications. You will interpret specs, design complete gearbox systems, and guide hardware selections to meet performance targets.

The role requires 1+ years in bevel/cylindrical gear powertrain work and experience with KissSoft, Gleason, Klingelnberg or Romax. Travel and collaboration across teams are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field.
• Graduate degree in engineering or business preferred.
• 1+ years of experience in bevel and/or cylindrical gear powertrain engineering in automotive, commercial vehicle, or off-highway industries.
• 1+ years of experience in gear design software (KissSoft, Gleason, Klingelnberg, or Romax preferred) and/or gear manufacturing and inspection.

Responsibilities

• Interpret customer technical specifications and use them to design complete gearbox systems including bevel gears, cylindrical gears, shafts and splines to meet Off-Highway design practices and customer performance requirements.
• Size and select hardware items such as bearings, bushings, seals, o-rings, bolts, friction disks, retaining rings, washers for gear systems.
• Provide technical support to purchasing, manufacturing plants, and other engineering departments during sourcing, vehicle development, launch, and production.
• Author and/or review DFMEAs and DVP&Rs and participate in APQP and review part deviations and PPAPs.
• Mentor and train less experienced gear engineers and technicians.
• Perform benchmarking and competitive gear analyses.
• Develop and implement VAVE cost savings projects.
