Job summary

Allison Transmission is seeking a Senior Gear Systems Engineer to lead diversified design and research for Off-Highway gearboxes, including new gear designs, optimizations, and manufacturing methodologies. You will work under the Manager of Spicer Torque-Hub Engineering to meet performance requirements and drive innovation.

The role requires experience in bevel/cylindrical gears, GD&T, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field.
• Graduate degree preferred but not required.
• 2+ years of bevel and/or cylindrical gear powertrain engineering experience in automotive/off‑highway.
• 3+ years of gear design software experience (KissSoft/Gleason/Klingelnberg/Romax).

Responsibilities

• Interpret customer specs and design complete gearbox systems (bevel and cylindrical gears, shafts, splines).
• Size and select hardware such as bearings, seals, bolts, and other components for gear systems.
• Provide technical support to purchasing, manufacturing, and other engineering teams during sourcing and production.
• Review DFMEAs and DVP&Rs; participate in APQP and PPAPs.
• Mentor gear engineers and technicians; perform benchmarking and competitive analyses.
• Develop and implement VAVE cost-saving projects.
