Job summary

Ford Motor Company’s Electric Vehicles, Digital and Design team seeks a Staff Functional Safety Engineer to own end-to-end safety lifecycle for automotive ECUs and autonomous systems. You will define safety concepts, drive ISO 26262 compliance, and lead cross-functional reviews across hardware and software teams.

You will apply HARA, FMEA, FTA and DFA techniques, develop safety cases, and mentor peers while advancing a robust safety culture.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences or equivalent.
• Minimum 4+ years of functional safety engineering experience in automotive, aerospace or industrial sectors.
• Deep expertise in ISO 26262:2018 and familiarity with ISO 21448 (SOTIF).
• Extensive experience leading safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA, DFA, STPA) for autonomous or complex E/E systems.
• Strong understanding of failure mode analysis for electrical designs and ASICs.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end functional safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA) to identify hazards and assess risks.
• Define safety requirements and safety concepts governing system architecture.
• Lead safety cases for ASIL A–D products from concept to production.
• Collaborate with system and hardware engineers to decompose module requirements to ECU level.
• Derive and verify safety concepts and hardware metrics (PMHF, SPFM, LFM).
• Oversee safety readiness processes and metrics across programs.
• Serve as core safety expert in design reviews and cross-functional discussions.
• Promote robust safety culture and continuous improvement across the organization.
• Identify training, coaching and mentoring opportunities for peers.
