Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Staff Functional Safety Engineer in the United States. You will lead end-to-end safety analyses, define safety concepts, and develop safety cases to ensure ISO 26262 compliance across autonomous/E/E systems.

You’ll collaborate with system and hardware teams, drive safety metrics, mentor engineers, and advance a strong safety culture in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 4+ years of functional safety engineering experience in safety-critical systems.
  • Deep expertise in ISO 26262:2018 and familiarity with ISO 21448 (SOTIF).
  • Extensive experience leading and performing complex safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA, DFA, STPA).
  • Strong understanding of failure mode analysis for complex electrical designs, ASICs, and advanced electrical circuits.
  • Technical project management skills with multi-project leadership.
  • Embedded control system development, embedded software, and V&V processes.
  • Background in data science and statistics for quantitative risk reduction.
  • Leadership with external partners, suppliers, or auditors.
  • Excellent communication and mentorship capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end functional safety analyses (HARA, FMEA, FTA) to identify hazards and assess risks.
  • Define and manage functional safety requirements and safety concepts for system architecture.
  • Lead development and assessment of safety cases for ASIL A-D products from concept to production.
  • Collaborate with system and hardware engineers to document hardware safety requirements.
  • Derive and verify safety concepts and hardware metrics to meet ISO 26262 requirements.
  • Oversee program safety readiness processes and metrics.
  • Serve as a core safety expert in design reviews and cross-functional tech discussions.
  • Promote a robust safety culture and continuous improvement of the safety program.
  • Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to peers and junior engineers.
