Job summary

Black Dog Labs is seeking a contract software engineer who can move between React/Next.js frontend features and Node.js or Python backend services. The role involves cloud infrastructure work, data integration, and strong emphasis on security, reliability, and testing.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering end-to-end web features across frontend and backend.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and release user-facing features from requirements through production rollout.
• Develop RESTful and event-driven services with clear contracts; implement authentication, validation, and rate limiting.
• Create responsive dashboards and analytics interfaces with React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Maintain reusable frontend SDKs and integration examples.
• Collaborate on schemas, data models, data pipelines, warehouses, and APIs exposing datasets.
• Provision infrastructure with Terraform and automate CI/CD; improve logs, metrics, traces, and runbooks.

Own web product features end to end across backend services, frontend experiences, APIs, SDKs, and the data flows behind them. This contract role suits a hands‑on engineer who can move comfortably between React and Next.js applications, Node.js or Python services, cloud infrastructure, and data integrations while maintaining strong standards for security, reliability, and testing.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test, and release user-facing features from requirements through production rollout.
• Develop RESTful and occasional event-driven services with clear contracts, authentication, validation, rate limiting, idempotency, and audit support.
• Create responsive, accessible dashboards, operational tools, and analytics-oriented interfaces with React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
• Maintain reusable frontend SDKs containing components, hooks, utilities, and integration examples.
• Collaborate on schemas, application models, data pipelines, warehouses, and APIs that expose curated datasets.
• Provision infrastructure with Terraform, automate CI/CD, and improve observability through logs, metrics, traces, alerts, and runbooks.

Nice to have

• Experience designing frontend client libraries, analytics interfaces, data‑quality checks, or contract tests.
• Practical use of AI coding assistants with independent engineering judgment.
